I know how hard it is to break free from the habitual excuses and stories that define us. I did that for a long time!
Have you ever thought that you have no time to prep meals, or that you don’t have the time, money or energy to join a gym, or that eating healthy costs more than junk food or that you can’t eat what you really want?
We build our bevy of excuses, truly believing those reasons are valid to the depths of our core which are reflected in every single thing we do and every choice we make. And we wonder why things never change for us.
So, what’s the worst thing that would happen if you simply told yourself a different story?
What if you gave yourself permission to take care of yourself? What if you found a way to make the time to prep healthier meals? What if you found the energy to exercise? What if your budget allowed you to get the support you need to do that?
How would you feel if you gave up the excuses to get what you really want?
Close your eyes and take a moment to think about what life would be like for you. How would you feel going into a store to try on clothes and have them fit? How would you feel taking the stairs at work or applying for that promotion? How would you feel playing with your kids or grand kids instead of watching from the sidelines? How would you feel if the aches & pains went away? How would you feel if you didn’t have to take medications for controllable illnesses? How would you feel about going to the movies and ordering popcorn?
Some of us are determined to succeed and go it alone. The sad truth is most of us don’t.
Each of us has a different challenge to overcome, but we all want the same things…love, happiness, fulfillment, comfort, connection, acceptance, worthiness. Those seeking the promise of success through a quick fix or a magic pill to drop the weight fast is what the diet industry depends on. They thrive on it. I know it’s so tempting to go for that when you see the before & after photos they show and make it looks so easy, but we all know that is a marketing ploy, a temporary measure and unrealistic. But we try it anyway.
Traditional diets trick us into believing that we have to give up our favorite comfort foods to live on carrot & celery sticks. That if you stick to their restrictive program to count calories, points or grams and eliminate certain foods like carbs,
fat or sugar you’ll make progress. That if you just use a little willpower, you’ll get what you want. And so we try that…and the next, and the next.
It’s the viscous cycle most people have been in for years and it creates negative emotion that forces us to give up before we even get started, no matter how excited we are at the beginning.
That’s why working with a health coach or personal trainer like me is a so important.
It’s my mission to get and keep others motivated and on track to meet and exceed their goals. It’s what I love to do. It’s what I make time for!
